Beaverdam Resident Adriane Lam Presented at National Geology Meeting

2012 Nov 8

Adriane Lam, a Senior geology major from Beaverdam, presented research at the Geological Society of America's 2012 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Charlotte, NC.

Lam, a student at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., presented a poster on " Planktonic Foaminifera Biostratigraphy of Holocene-Late Pleistocene Core MD02-2535 Tunica Mound, Gulf of Mexico."

Her research focuses on using planktonic foraminifera (microfossil_) biostratigraphy to create an age model for core MD02-2535 drilled from Tunica Mound in the northern Gulf of Mexico.

Lam's research is also based on paleoclimatology, which is interpreting past climate conditions through various proxies, but mainly by using drilled sediment and ice cores. Looking at past climate conditions may give clues as to what might happen in the future.

The conference was held from Sunday, Nov. 4 to Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Charlotte Convention Center. More information about geology at JMU is available at http://www.jmu.edu/geology/index.shtml.
