Brittni Robinson of Manassas Participates in Alternative Spring Break Trip

2014 Apr 14

Manassas, VA resident Brittni Robinson spent spring break serving others through James Madison University's Alternative Spring Break Program. Robinson, a freshman social work major traveled to Los Angeles, Calif. to volunteer with Los Angeles Mission and the Downtown Women's Center.

The student-led ASB trips took place from March 8-15. Each trip focused on a social issue, such as homelessness, resettlement, environmentalism or community wellness, in a specific region. Almost 300 students embarked on 30 spring break trips around the country and world. The students spent the week living simply, focused on service in their destination community but also on teamwork and reflection within their group.

LA’s Mission is an organization primarily focused on providing emergency and recovery services and helping individuals transition back into the community. The Downtown Women’s Center is primarily focused on providing permanent supportive housing and a safe and healthy community fostering dignity, respect, and personal stability. Students worked on a variety of projects with these two organizations and got to know the individuals that utilize these services.
