Carson Rader-Bell of Purcellville Participates in Alternative Spring Break Trip

2014 Apr 14

Purcellville, VA resident Carson Rader-Bell spent spring break serving others through James Madison University's Alternative Spring Break Program. Rader-Bell, a graduate student college student personnel administration major traveled to Charlotte, N.C. to volunteer with Life Span.

The student-led ASB trips took place from March 8-15. Each trip focused on a social issue, such as homelessness, resettlement, environmentalism or community wellness, in a specific region. Almost 300 students embarked on 30 spring break trips around the country and world. The students spent the week living simply, focused on service in their destination community but also on teamwork and reflection within their group.

It is LifeSpan’s goal to use its three core values, social responsibility, accountability, and personal commitment, to empower those who need additional assistance in their community due to intellectual and developmental disabilities. The JMU students helped educate and mentor those enrolled in the program, ranging in age and disability type, in order to be positive role models and make a difference in their lives.
