Carson Rader-Bell of Purcellville, VA Spent Spring Break Serving Others

2013 Mar 11

Carson Rader-Bell of Purcellville spent spring break serving others as part of James Madison University's Alternative Spring Break program. Rader-Bell, a senior health sciences major, traveled to Dominican Republic to volunteer at Village Mountain Mission.

While in the Dominican Republic, the students interacted and worked with the community and helped to build a house for a local family. The group fully immersed themselves in the Dominican culture and adopted a simple living lifestyle for the week. They brought suitcases of supplies for donations and materials to put on a Carnival for the children of the village as well.

The student-led ASB trips, scheduled for March 2-9, are each based on a social issue such as homelessness, environmentalism or community wellness. Over 300 students embarked on 30 spring break trips around the country and world. The students spend the week living simply, focused on service in their destination community but also on teamwork and reflection within their group.
