Daniel Humphreys of Covington chosen for summer Governor's Fellows Program

2014 May 22

Daniel Humphreys of Covington, a student at James Madison University, has been selected to participate in the 2014 Governor's Fellows Program.

The program, which will run June 2 through Aug. 1, offers a select group of outstanding and highly motivated individuals the opportunity to experience firsthand the administration of state government in the commonwealth. Participants are placed in different positions in the Governor's Office and in various agencies throughout the executive branch. The program attempts to match Fellows with compatible assignments according to background, interests and future goals.

Humphreys is a rising senior at JMU majoring in political science with a minor in public policy and administration. He has been involved in several political campaigns, including as an intern with Gov. Terry McAuliffe's gubernatorial campaign last fall. "While I have enjoyed my work on the electoral side of politics, I realize the importance of the inner-workings of state government to the realization of the policy goals set out in a political campaign," Humphreys said. "The Governor's Fellows program will be an invaluable experience in witnessing the implementation of these policy goals. Learning the ways in which the state government can improve the daily lives of its citizens is an insight which I believe will serve me well as I pursue a career in public service."
