Janey Goodman of Powhatan Named CAA Offensive Player of the Week

2016 Oct 28

Leading James Madison volleyball to an undefeated week on the court, senior right side hitter Janey Goodman of Powhatan earned Colonial Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week.

The Dukes tallied three crucial league wins over the past week, beginning with a 3-1 upset over conference leader Northeastern on Thursday. JMU closed the weekend with two additional four-set victories over Elon and Hofstra to improve to 14-10 overall and 6-5 in conference action as the Dukes closed the gap between the 8-2 Huskies in the league standings.

Goodman paced the Duke offense, garnering 20 or more kills over all three matches, as the senior totaled 68 to average 5.67 per set. The Powhatan, Va. native attacked at a team-high .395 hitting percentage, while racking up a team-best 73.5 points. Defensively, the right side hitter added nine digs and 11.0 blocks. Goodman leads the league in points, averaging 5.22 per set, and her 4.58 kills per set average tops the conference and is the highest single-season kill average in program history.

With three weeks remaining in the regular season, Goodman currently ranks second in career attack attempts (4,064), third in career kills (1,553) and career kill average (3.72) and fifth in career block assists (312). The honor is Goodman's second of the season and the fifth Offensive Player of the Week selection of her career.

James Madison begins its final road tilt of the 2016 regular season on Friday, Oct. 28 when the Dukes travel to William & Mary to face the Tribe at 7 p.m.
