Janey Goodman of Powhatan Named CAA Offensive Player of the Week

2016 Nov 7

Shattering career highs in crucial Colonial Athletic Association road contests, senior right side hitter Janey Goodman of Powhatan was named Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

JMU picked up two pivotal league wins on the road, topping both Charleston and UNCW in five sets to push the Duke winning streak to six matches. Standing 17-10 overall and 9-5 in league action, JMU clinched a spot in the 2016 CAA Tournament for the seventh consecutive season under Head Coach Lauren Steinbrecher and are just one game behind conference leaders Northeastern and Charleston.

Goodman earned her third weekly offensive honor of the season and the sixth of her career with Monday's selection. The Powhatan, Va. native recorded a record-breaking weekend on the court after tallying 63 kills, averaging 6.30 per set, on 151 swings to attack at a team-leading .338 mark. The senior garnered 30 or more kills in back-to-back matches, including setting a new career-high of 33 at Charleston. Goodman also added one assists, six digs and four blocks for the Dukes.

The senior leads the conference with a 4.75 kills per set and 5.35 points per set average, while ranking fourth in the league with a .322 hitting percentage. Goodman has surpassed her 2015 kills total with 470 this season and is just 37 away from taking down Lindsay Collingwood's single-season record of 50, which has stood since 1996.

JMU closes out the 2016 regular season this weekend with back-to-back home matches inside Godwin Hall. The Dukes host Delaware on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. before welcoming Towson to Sinclair Gym for "Senior Night" on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
