Janey Goodman of Powhatan Tabbed as ECAC Offensive Player of the Year

2016 Dec 1

The Eastern College Athletic Conference released its 2016 Division I Volleyball All-Star team and James Madison's Janey Goodman of Powhatan was nammed Offensive Player of the Year and earned First-Team accolades.

The honor is the second major award for Goodman this season as she was named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year earlier this month and comes off the heels of James Madison winning the CAA Championship title and earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2000.

Goodman has strung together a record-setting senior season and ranks nationally as one of the most lethal offensive players in the country. The senior leads the league with a 4.59 kills per set average with 523 total kills, both new single-season records for JMU. Goodman set her third single-season record with 1,277 attack attempts over her senior campaign. The Powhatan, Va. native also leads the conference with 591.0 total points and a 5.18 points per set average.

Nationally, the right side hitter ranks in the top 12 in four offensive categories (total kills, total points, points per set, kills per set), aided by the senior garnering 20 or more kills in 10 matches this season. Nearing the end of her senior campaign, Goodman ranks second in career kills (1,687) and career attack attempts (4,391), third in career kills average (3.78), fourth in career block assists (330), fifth in career sets plays (446) and eighth in career total blocks (353) at JMU.

James Madison begins its NCAA Tournament run on Friday, Dec. 2 when the Dukes face Coastal Carolina at 4:30 p.m. inside Carmichael Arena at Chapel Hill, N.C. in first round action. The Dukes are 21-10 overall this season and bring a 10-match win streak into Friday's match.
