Logan Brennan of Kingston honored by Inside Lacrosse for top incoming freshmen

2016 Sep 15

Logan Brennan of Kingston was honored on the ILWomen's Top 50 Incoming Freshmen List.

Two James Madison lacrosse freshmen were recognized amongst the top incoming collegiate student-athletes, as Maddie McDaniel and Logan Brennan were named to the ILWomen's Top 50 Incoming Freshmen list, Inside Lacrosse announced Wednesday.

We are honored to see two of our incoming freshmen, Maddie and Logan, on this list," Head Coach Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe said. "JMU is one of only 22 schools represented in the top 50 recruit list. This is quite an honor considering there are now over 115 schools that compete at the Division I level."

A midfielder from Severna Park, Md., McDaniel was ranked as the No. 42 freshman in the country, while Brennan was tabbed just outside the 50 on the watch list.

McDaniel was a two-time US Lacrosse All-American while being recognized on the Under Armour Underclassman All-America Team and USA Today All-USA Third Team once. A two-time First Team All-Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland selection, she helped Severn School to the conference semifinals as a senior and the quarterfinals as a junior.

She was team captain in 2016 and led the team with 60 goals and 156 draw controls in her final season. As a junior, she tallied 50 goals and 132 draw controls. McDaniel also played club lacrosse for the Maryland United Lacrosse Club and was a dual-sport athlete, graduating from Severn as the girls' basketball team's all-time leading scorer (1,864) and rebounder (1,204).

Maddie is a huge threat on the draw," Klaes-Bawcombe said. "We are so excited to welcome her to JMU this year and hope she can make an immediate impact in our play.

"I am so excited for both of these student-athletes; what a compliment heading into their college careers. I expect them both to bring new energy and competition to our team, along with the rest of our freshman class this year."

Brennan was a three-time US Lacrosse All-American at Kingston High School. She was named Varsity 845 Player of the Year three times, while also being named to the First Team as a freshman and as an eighth grader.

The Kingston, N.Y., native was an OCIAA Section Nine First Team All-Star all five years and finished her career as the section's all-time leading scorer, with 379 career goals. She helped Kingston to five section championships during her career, while also playing club lacrosse for ADK.

"Logan is a standout athlete from upstate New York," Klaes-Bawcombe said. "Her size, strength and goal-scoring ability make her hard to forget."

The Dukes finished the 2016 season with a 10-10 record, winning a share of the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season title and receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship. JMU opens the fall season on Sept. 24 with the Alumni Game at Sentara Park. The fall slate also includes trips to Louisville, Johns Hopkins, Virginia, Duke and Georgetown.
