Martin Sarah of Ft. Lauderdale Named CAA Volleyball Rookie of the Week

Leading James Madison volleyball to its best season start since 1999, freshman setter Martin Sarah of Ft. Lauderdale picked up CAA Rookie of the Week honors as announced by the league Monday afternoon.

Earning the job of starting setter over the Dukes' three matches, Martin dished out 106 assists, averaging 10.6 per set, while guiding JMU to a .328 team hitting percentage. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native set a career-high with 41 helpers against Cornell, while adding 12 digs to record the first Duke double-double of the season. Martin posted back-to-back double-doubles after tallying 30 assists and 10 digs against Colgate. The setter closed the weekend with 12 kills, 28 digs and seven blocks. Over her debut season, Martin is averaging 9.27 assists per set to rank fourth overall in the league.

The Dukes improved to 6-1 on the year, the best start since JMU won seven consecutive games to open the 1999 season, as James Madison won the Cornell Invitational with sweeps over Cornell and Colgate and a 3-1 victory over Marist.
