Metzler Earns Player of the Week Honors

Billy Metzler of Fairfax was named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Metzler tallied a goal and an assist in a crucial 2-0 win at Drexel on Saturday to keep JMU in the hunt for a berth to the CAA Championship. In the 66th minute, his cross found the head of junior forward Joe Vyner to put JMU up 1-0. Eight minutes later, Metzler sealed the win by winning a loose ball, turning and finishing into an empty net. He also played 78 minutes in the 2-1 win over Longwood on Wednesday, registering a shot on goal. The attacker from Fairfax, Va. leads the Dukes in points (8), assists (4) and is tied for the team lead in goals (2).

This is the first weekly honor of Metzler's career.

The Dukes travel to Wilmington, N.C. on Wednesday to take on UNCW in their final CAA match of the season at 7 p.m. The top six teams at the end of the regular season make the CAA Championship. JMU is currently in seventh place with eight points, but are just three points behind third-place Elon.
