Metzler Earns Player of the Week Honors

Billy Metzler of Fairfax was named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

For the second game in a row and third time this season, Metzler recorded a goal and an assist in a JMU win. In the Dukes' 2-0 win at UNCW on Wednesday, Metzler whipped in a corner kick that Callum Hill headed into the net in the second minute. Six minutes later, the attacker from Fairfax, Va. volleyed home his own rebound to double the Dukes' lead. He leads JMU in goals (3), assists (5) and points (11) this season. This is the second consecutive week that Metzler has earned Player of the Week honors. In addition to the conference award, he was named to College Soccer News' National Team of the Week.

This is the second time this season that JMU has had both a Player and Rookie of the Week, with Metzler and freshman midfielder Tim Estermann earning the respective honors last week.

The Dukes wrap up the regular season with a non-conference match at Robert Morris on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. JMU is currently on a three-game win streak and is awaiting results from other CAA matches to learn its fate in regards to the CAA Championship.
