Rashard Davis Named Colonial Athletic Association Special Teams Player of the Week

2016 Sep 15

James Madison wide receiver Rashard Davis earned the first weekly conference honor of his career as the senior was named Colonial Athletic Association Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced on Monday.

Davis returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter last Saturday to put the Dukes ahead 42-7. It was Davis' second punt return for a score in as many games and one of two in the ballgame, as junior John Miller took another back for a touchdown in the fourth quarter en route to a 56-21 triumph over Central Connecticut State.

The Charlottesville, Va., native also had a 76-yard punt return for a touchdown, the first of his career, in week one's record-breaking 80-7 win against Morehead State. Davis is the only player nationally to have two punt returns for a touchdown this season, averaging 75.5 per return.

JMU as a team averages a FCS-best 69.0 yards per return, having produced touchdowns on all three attempts in 2016. The 11th-ranked Dukes hit the road for the first time this season, as they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to play FBS-foe North Carolina on Sept. 17. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. from Kenan Stadium and the game can be seen on Comcast SportsNet and the Regional Sports Network while being heard on the JMU/Sprint Broadcast Network.
