Victoria Knabe of Springfield Participates in Alternative Spring Break Trip

2015 Mar 24

Springfield, VA resident Victoria Knabe spent spring break serving others through James Madison University's Alternative Spring Break Program. Knabe, a seniorInternational Affairs major, traveled to Lakeland, Florida to volunteer with East Coast Migrant Head Start Project.

The student-led ASB trips took place from March 7-14. Each trip focused on a social issue, such as homelessness, resettlement, environmentalism or community wellness, in a specific region. Almost 300 students embarked on 23 spring break trips around the country and world. The students spent the week living simply, focused on service in their destination community but also on teamwork and reflection within their group.

East Coast Migrant Head Start is an agency that provides high-quality early childhood education services for children and their families. JMU students worked with ECMHS to help facilitate the education process for those children from migrant and seasonal farmworker families. These education and family services foster a positive environment for the children where they are able to learn skills that will help them to succeed.
