Woodbridge resident elected to student leadership position in the American Occupational Therapy Association

2014 Mar 17

Nicole Lamoureux, a second-year graduate student in occupational therapy at James Madison University, was recently elected vice chairperson to the Assembly of Student Delegates Steering Committee of the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Lamoureux will be responsible for facilitating communication between all OT programs in the U.S., with the student delegates within the programs, and with the steering committee members. She will also coordinate meetings between the AOTA board of directors and OT academic programs.

AOTA, a national professional association founded in 1917, represents the interests and concerns of OT practitioners and students and works to improve the quality of occupational therapy services. Its current membership is 50,000.

Lamoureux is the first OT master's student at JMU to run for and receive a national office position. She will travel to Baltimore in April for the ASD annual meeting during the AOTA Annual Conference & Exposition.

"If I achieve one thing while serving this position, I hope to inspire students to challenge their leadership abilities and take these opportunities as they come," Lamoureux said. "These positions were created for students to have an active say as the profession moves forward."
