James Madison University is proud to recognize its 2022 Collegiate Wind Competition Team for placing third overall in this year's competition. The 2022 CWC focused on siting, outreach and development challenges associated with fixed-bottom offshore wind energy projects. JMU was one of 12 teams that developed project plans, collaborated with industry experts and engaged with their local communities.

Rainey-Shepard Business Plan Competition Winner

Now in its 20th year, the business plan competition showcases the best business plans developed by teams of students in COB 300. This 12-credit curriculum serves as the gateway to JMU's College of Business, integrating fundamental principles of finance, management, marketing and operations. Nearly 650 students have participated in the competition since it was launched in 2003. Five student-teams advance through two preliminary rounds to vie, in the finals, for scholarships totaling more than $25,000. Each finalist delivers a pitch and engages in a question-and-answer session with the judges. The order-of-finish and allocation of scholarships are announced at the conclusion of the team presentations.

The U.S. Department of Energy announced that JMU placed first in the project development category of the 2020 Collegiate Wind Competition, topping 11 other universities from around the country. Originally scheduled to be held the first week of June at the American Wind Energy Association's CLEANPOWER conference in Denver, the competition was moved online due to COVID-19 and was held via webinar on May 20, June 2, June 3 and June 17.

James Madison University is one of 12 schools around the country invited to compete in the 2018 Collegiate Wind Competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. Judging will culminate the yearlong competition May 8-10 at the American Wind Energy Association conference in Chicago.
