Students in James Madison University's School of Theatre and Dance performed over the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in a poignant production about a present-day interracial couple and the journey to break down the barriers between them.

Students Perform Onstage with World's Top Brass Band
Students in the James Madison University Brass Band performed onstage with the Cory Band, the world's top brass band ensemble. This performance marked the first time the JMU Brass Band has played onstage with Cory Band at the Forbes Center. The two bands have performed onstage together two other times: at the 2017 Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) Brass Band Festival in Manchester, England, and during a concert tour of England and Wales by the JMU Brass Band in 2008. The South Wales-based Cory Band played at the Forbes Center in February 2016, when the JMU Brass Band had an opportunity to work with them.

Students Performed in Play about Witches during Halloween Week
Halloween week at the Forbes Center featured a cast of 12 female students in the James Madison University School of Theatre and Dance's production of Vinegar Tom, a masterpiece of feminist theatre by Caryl Churchill. One of the most important and decorated contemporary playwrights, Churchill pushed gender boundaries by advocating for females in lead roles when she entered the British theatre scene in the early 1970s.

Marching Royal Dukes represent JMU in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
The James Madison University marching band, the Marching Royal Dukes, will be marching in the 92nd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, their fourth appearance in the holiday classic. Marching 535 strong, the Marching Royal Dukes are the largest in the parade and one of only three college bands invited.

2016 Marching Royal Dukes have 440 members
James Madison University's nationally recognized marching band, the Marching Royal Dukes, entered the 2016 season with 440 members. On tap for this season are performances at local high schools, a trip with the football team to Chapel Hill, a featured exhibition at the USBands National Championships in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and a joint performance with the Marching Virginians at the annual Virginia Music Educators Association State Conference at The Homestead Resort in November.
